Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist. Information regarding therapy and patient identification cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. Therapists are required by law to report such issues to the appropriate authorities.
  • Threats of serious bodily harm toward another person/s. Police must be notified in order to inform/warn the intended victim.
  • Intention to harm self may require actions to maintain client safety. This could include notification of parents or other trusted adult, completion of a safety agreement and plan or even initiating an emergency mental health hold when necessary.
